This week on Wunderkammer, we'll be exploring the idea of the collection.
To kick off the collection theme, I decided to indulge in a bit of flarf poetry. The poem below is a collection of phrases generated by Google searches. The search terms I used were "weirdest collection in the world," "can you have too many," "killed by collection," and "put that in your wunderkammer."

i didn’t suggest that saving the world would put any zing into your wild thing
why did you put your instrument aside and start studying Art History?
didn’t anyone ever tell you about salt mines, shallow lakes, and deep-earth,
the treatment for wasp sting, the andy warhol rug,
fishy downpours and mysterious balls of light and bleeding skies
do not be intimidated by this
[put your fingers on your closed eyelids & press gently]
if you are part of the 8% that still rock out everyday, put this in your signature:
garbage collection is known as a dangerous business when you put on your “whimsy” caps
(who will betray the group? who gets killed?)
point of view is often as not your most reliable guide through the chaos
there will be no space for your ‘own self’ once you’ve put on the glasses
so the next time someone sniffs at your rocket-ship covered book, you can tell them
a few decades of research have made it clear that people are terrible choosers
from the man who sued god to the man who . . .
dies in the pacific northwest and is put to sea in a burning canoe
can you imagine letting your child sit on a hyena?
OMG, why would you have a dog lick your face!
yeesh, some teens
i’m not trying to put your friend down, just in perspective
consider this: you are setting out to create your own cabinet of curiosities
or you just see yourself in the details that make your everyday life, waking up
i am like you, i soak the art of others too.
but i understand now that it is dangerous to put all your eggs on one spider
we can all be replaced in the big picture without so much as hiccup
and youtube has a mythical “center,” and
it takes a lot of time just to put everything together for us to learn
the best weapon is a flail, not a morning star
